The Stroke of Grace
Real Madrid v Bayer Leverkusen · Hampden Park · 2002 Champions League Final
The Treble Horror
Glasgow hosted the ultimate stage four days later. Leverkusen refused to give up as they faced off against Real Madrid, the Champions League Royalty. However, football's destiny had other ideas. Zinedine Zidane delivered a strike of unadulterated, brutal perfection as the ball dropped from the sky. Ballack was wearing a third runner-up medal around his neck. The horror of the treble was finished.

About this moment
Hampden Park, Glasgow, 15 May 2002. With the Champions League final level at 1-1 on the stroke of half-time, Roberto Carlos looped a cross into the air and Zinedine Zidane met it on the volley with his weaker left foot. Real Madrid won 2-1.
Seen from Leverkusen's side, it was the third trophy lost in eleven days. This framed football poster is frame three of our Michael Ballack 2002 story.
